FRANZ LISZT
Sonata in B minor, S. 178

FRÉDÉRIC CHOPIN
24 Preludes, Op. 28

DANIIL TRIFONOV
Rachmaniana

The three pieces by Scriabine, Liszt, and Chopin of Trifonov’s recital were inspired by three women who marked the lives of these composers: Natalya Sekerina, dedicatee of Scriabine’s Sonata-Fantasy No. 2; the Polish-Russian princess Carolyne de Sayn-Wittgenstein, with whom Liszt shared his life during the composition of his Sonata in B Minor; and George Sand, Chopin’s lover, who travelled with him to Majorca where he composed his 24 Préludes. Daniil Trifonov closed his recital with one of his own compositions, Rachmaniana.

Rising star of the piano, Daniil Trifonov has received numerous accolades from critics and colleagues alike. Martha Argerich notably described the pianist as, “[possessing] everything and more. What he does with his hands is technically incredible…I’ve never heard anything like it.”
