The British Friends of the Verbier Festival

Introducing the British Friends of the Verbier Festival

The British Friends of the Verbier Festival (BFVF) is a charity created to support such of the purposes of the Verbier Festival and Academy as are directed to the advancement of education in the arts of music, theatre, and dance by the provision of master classes and the education and training therein and in such other ways as the Executive Committee in consultation with the Comité de Direction of Verbier Festival and Academy think fit.

The BFVF have had several events in London in the past year and a half: a wonderful concert given by Alexandra Dariescu (after summer participation in the Academy at Verbier) followed by an interview with Natalie Wheen of Classic FM and a dinner afterward. The next event was a masterclass conducted by Gabor Takacs-Nagy, music director of the Verbier Festival, with the Gildas Quartet. As masterclasses are one of the distinctive features of the Verbier Festival, we wanted to highlight this for Friends who may have never been to one. The masterclass was followed by dinner in one of our board members' home. Last fall, we had another small concert by a Verbier Festival quartet, without a name but not without presence, again at the home of Verbier supporters.

We always try to arrange special events during the Festival for the British Friends. This year was no exception with a seminar on Alpine Painters and Turner, given by David Blayney Brown, curator of British Art from 1790-1850, Tate Britain; a  tasting of Swiss wines given by two masters of wine; and a focus on masterclasses of particular interest to British visitors.

If you plan to come to Verbier, the British Friends would be pleased to assist you in the organization of your travels and to find you accommodations.
