The Verbier Festival Orchestra Music Directors

The Verbier Festival is proud and delighted to see Charles Dutoit and Gábor Takács-Nagy at the head of its Orchestras.

Charles Dutoit, Music Director of the Verbier Festival Orchestra

Music Director of the Verbier Festival Orchestra since 2009, Charles Dutoit is the conductor who knows this exceptional group better than anyone else. Indeed, Charles Dutoit has conducted the Orchestra on three international tours and took it to the very height of its achievements, with Martha Argerich at the piano, when it travelled Europe and the United States in November 2007. He will be at the Verbier Festival, most notably on 15 July, when he conducts the opening concert.

Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra, as well as Artistic Director of the Royal Philharmonic in London, Charles Dutoit regularly appears with the world’s leading orchestras.

Gábor Takács-Nagy, Music Director of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra

Gábor Takács-Nagy was appointed Music Director of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra in 2007. He toured Asia with the orchestra and mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade. Gábor Takács-Nagy is also a founder member and first violin of the Takács Quartet, but since 2001 has devoted himself full-time to orchestral conducting. Since 2007, he has been guest Chief Conductor of the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra and the Budapest Symphony Orchestra MAV, and regularly conducts the Irish Chamber Orchestra.

Appointed professor of chamber music at the Geneva Conservatory and the Ecole Supérieur de Musique in Sion in 1997, Gábor Takács-Nagy also gives masterclasses at numerous international academies, including the Verbier Festival Academy, in which he plays an active role.
