The Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra sets out on its first visit to China, from 28 February to 3 March 2013. Thanks to the generous support of leading Swiss private banking group, Bank Julius Baer, audiences in Beijing (28 February), Shanghai (1 March), Guangzhou (2 March), Shenzhen (3 March) and Hong Kong (private concert, 4 March) will be able to enjoy performances by this renowned chamber ensemble.

The leading soloist of the tour will be renowned Russian violinist Kirill Troussov. This gifted virtuoso and former pupil of Zakhar Bron and Yehudi Menuhin has performed with some of the world’s most famous orchestras, such as the Staatskapelle Berlin, the Gewandhausorchester in Leipzig and the Orchestre de Paris, under the direction of such conductors as Sir Neville Marriner, Daniele Gatti and Lawrence Foster.

For this first tour to China, Kirill Troussov and the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra have a very special repertoire in store. Mozart’s Divertimento in B-flat major, K 137 will be followed by the “Eight Seasons”, an astonishing programme which alternates the pieces of Antonio Vivaldi’s Violin Concerto The Four Seasons and Astor Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. By contrasting European baroque music with Argentinian tango compositions, it offers a unique and rich musical approach the universal topic of the “seasons”.
