A few words about Israel Philharmonic Orchestra Richter String Quartet
The IPO Richter String Quartet, endowed by the Richter family, was founded over a year ago. The Quartet, whose members are violinists Ilia Konovalov (IPO Concertmaster) and Shmuel Glaser, principal violist Roman Spitzer and cellist Felix Nemirovsky, made its debut in May 2006 at the Spoleto Festival in Italy, while the IPO was on a concert tour there. The Richter family, who initiated this enterprise, made a generous contribution toward it and took upon themselves to support it for the next ten years.
The IPO Richter String Quartet was established in order to continue the great tradition of string quartets that had been an integral part of the IPO's artistic activity and of the musical scene in Israel. The Quartet will perform in Israel and abroad in concerts related to the IPO's activities, such as fundraising events and IPO international concert tours, as well as in the Chamber Music Series of the IPO and the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music.
In addition, the Quartet members will create and develop a center for chamber music studies at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, where they will teach chamber music, and also take part in promoting and teaching chamber music to young musicians in collaboration with the Jerusalem Music Center. In January 2007, the IPO String Quartet appeared in New York and San Francisco. It will be the resident Quartet in one of Europe's prestigious music festivals in the summer of 2008. Last year the quartet made two successful tours in the USA and in Latin America.
