Birgitta Elisa Oftestad was born in Oslo in 2002 and started playing cello at age five. She has been part of the talent programme of the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo since 2012. Her main teacher is Ole Eirik Ree (additional teachers: Ernst Simon Glaser (2015-16) and Truls Mørk (2016-17).
Birgitta has been successful soloist and chamber musician at a number of festivals, as Oslo Chamber Music Festival and Bergen International Festival.
She has also won a number of prices, both as chamber musician and soloist. In 2018 she was the winner of the Norwegian Soloist Prize, and was selected the Norwegian participant to Eurovision Young Musician in Edinbourgh where she played in the final with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. In September 2018 she received the Frans Helmerson Prize at Kronberg Academy.
