Eduard Wulfson
Violin

Eduard Wulfson was born in Riga in 1953.

He began studying the violin at the age of six and his talent enabled him to give his first concert at the age of nine at the Riga Conservatory. His first teacher was V. Sturestep, followed by M. Waiman at the Rimsky Korsakov Conservatory in St Petersburg. He then continued his studies at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow with Professor I. Bezrodny until 1976. Then, from 1977, living in Paris, Eduard Wulfson continued to work with Maestros Nathan Milstein, Yehudi Menuhin and Henryk Szering. He has won important prizes in international competitions such as the Nicolas Paganini Competition in Genoa, the International Vaclav Huml Competition in Zagreb and the Fine Arts Prize in Munich.

He has performed as a soloist with major orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic of London, the Philarmonia London, major ensembles from Germany, Russia, Japan and the United States. Among his chamber music partners: Vadim Repin, Natalia Gutman, Yuri Bashmet, Yehudi Menuhin, Vadim Sakharov, Ida Haendel and Dimitri Yablonsky with whom he collaborated and recorded two Rachmaninov trios for Naxos. The international press has always praised the exceptional musical level of Eduard Wulfson as described by Maestro Y. Menuhin : “Eduard Wulfson playing is in the best Russian tradition”.

For 30 years, Eduard Wulfson has also been recognized as a teacher of international soloists. Among his most talented students: Kristof Barati who has an international career and currently, for three years, Professor Wulfson works with Daniel Lozakovitj, who thanks to his immense talent has already started a very beautiful career. Many of his students have also won major prizes in Paris, Brussel and Geneva.

In addition to his artistic activities, Eduard Wulfson is recognized worldwide for his expertise and consulting work in the purchase and sale of some of the most prestigious string instruments (A. Stradivari, G. Guarneri del Gésu…) to institutional and private clients. His company “Rare Musical Instruments Consulting” (Edwulstrad RMIC Ltd) is based in Geneva where he resides.
