Florian Pons

Florian Pons was born in 1994 in Toulouse, France. He started playing the cello at the age of six, then continued his studies firstly at the CRR in Toulouse, in Master Classes with Philippe Muller, then at the CRR in Paris with Raphaël Pidoux. He is currently studying at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris in the class of Marc Coppey.

Florian Pons had the chance to meet and work with Frans Helmerson, David Geringas, Gary Hoffman, Boris Andrianov, Seiji Ozawa or even Nobuko Imai Peter Bruns and Alexander Rudin in differents master classes and academys. In 2011, he played in the French Youth Orchestra and in 2015 took part in the Seiji Ozawa International Academy. Yves Henri invited him in 2013 to play the Chopin Cello Sonata during the Nohant Chopin Festival. In 2009, he won his first cello competition in Bordeaux – Cenon. Then he won 2011 Vatelot Competition, 2012 Toulouse Rotary Club Competition, 2013 Epernay String Competition, 2013 Leopold Bellan International Competition Honorary Prize, and the first prize in the Bellan Internet Competition. In 2013 he was a semi-finalist at the Brahms International Competition in Pörtschach. In 2016 he reached the quarter-finals in Leipzig Bach Competition and he won the International Competition ” Tremplin “of Aulnay and performed the Dvořák Concerto twice with orchestra. He reached the semi-final in Lutoslawski Competition in February 2018, he performed in april, the first movement of Chostakovitch cello concerto with orchestra, for the opening concert of China’s Cello Biennale, “SuperCello”. He reached the semi-final in both Enescu (4 rounds competition) and Schoenfeld Competition during this summer 2018, and had the chance to play during the first one in the Bucarest’s Athenaeum twice. Then he reached semi-final in Isang Yun competition in november 2018.

He just entered the Classe d’Excellence de Violoncelle with Gautier Capuçon for the 2018-2019 session.

Florian Pons plays on an 18th century cello attributed to Ambroise de Comble, disciple of Stradivarius.
