In 1938 – the “fated year”, as named by the Nazi regime – the situation of German Jews suddenly and irrevocably changed within a few-month period. In those times defined by a terrible escalation of violence, they got their freedom stolen and became discriminated and persecuted.

The special concert Daniel Hope organises at the Verbier Festival describes twelve months in Berlin and far beyond, through the music of Mendelssohn, Bach, Jurmann, Heymann, Eisler, Schulhoff, etc. A set of various renowned artists, including baritone singer Thomas Hampson and pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet will perform classical music, popular music and cabaret, and will bring some new life to existing instrumental music with additional lyrics.
