A radiant opening night!

Friday, 22 July

Violin legend Kyung Wha Chung has performed under the world’s greatest conductors, including Simon Rattle, Georg Solti and Claudio Abbado. After a long absence from the festival, she returns to perform with her brother-in-arms Charles Dutoit, with whom she recorded many of her seminal Decca releases. It’s hard to imagine a better opening night!

The opera Carmen of Bizet

Monday, 25 July

Charles Dutoit likes to set wild musical challenges at the Festival. After Pelléas and Mélisande and The Damnation of Faust, the Swiss conductor presents another jewel of French opera: Bizet’s Carmen. American mezzo Kate Aldrich has triumphed in the lead role around the world and will make a bewitching cigarette girl.

Falstaff of Verdi with Bryn Terfel in one of his greatest roles

Friday, 29 July

By turns funny, larger than life, and pathetic, Bryn Terfel’s Falstaff is unforgettable. Leading an exceptional vocal cast, conductor Jesús López Cobos will draw out the necessary eloquence and brilliance from the Verbier Festival Orchestra, as well as mining for Verdi’s bittersweet colours.

Exceptional evening dedicated to Wagner

Thursday, 04 August

Iván Fischer proved his mastery of the more expansive works of the repertoire with his rendition of Mahler’s Sixth Symphony in 2014. The founder of the Budapest Festival Orchestra deploys his incredible precision to set on fire symphonic arrangements from Wagner’s operas. Emotions will run high during this concert given that the celebrated soprano Nina Stemme -one of the greatest Wagnerian singers of our time- will perform Isolde’s death!

Mahler’s evening conducted by the great Michael Tilson Thomas

Sunday, 07 August

Following last year’s Resurrection Symphony, conducted by Zubin Mehta, the Verbier Festival continues its exploration of symphonies written by the Austrian composer with a performance by one of the greatest Mahlerians of our time, Michael Tilson Thomas. Having released a much-acclaimed complete collection on CD with his San Francisco orchestra, the American conductor will treat us to the spectacular Symphony N°3, with the joint forces of the Verbier Festival Orchestra, contralto Nathalie Stutzmann and local choirs. This will be a hit!

The virtuoso Daniil Trifonov

Sunday, 24 July

Every time we meet him again in Verbier we’re curious and excited. And every time, he overwhelms us with his intelligence and his growing maturity. With success that far exceeds what was expected of him, even after his victories at the prestigious Tchaikovsky and Rubinstein competitions in 2012, pianist Daniil Trifonov is back for a solo recital, with a programme worthy of his talents.

Yuja Wang, “Flying fingers”

Wednesday, 27 July

The piano world has nicknamed her “The Flying Fingers”, as a tribute to her astonishing virtuosity. But Yuja Wang has also proved herself to be one of the finest performers of Romantic and Modern repertoire. The Verbier Festival has become one of her favourite ports of call and she is back for a recital that will demonstrate the full range of her talents.

The great András Schiff

Thursday, 28 July

András Schiff is an extraordinary character and certainly one of the titans of today’s piano scene. After the success of his concerts last year, the Hungarian pianist returns as soloist and conductor of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, in a lavish programme that culminates in Beethoven’s masterpiece, the Emperor Concerto. Unmissable.

Exceptional evening with the diva of jazz Dianne Reeves

Tuesday, 02 August

With her virtuosity, charisma and warmth of voice, Dianne Reeves is a worthy heir to Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. Crowned with a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2015, the American singer unleashes the full extent of her talent on stage. Equally comfortable with jazz standards, pop or Afro-Brazilian rhythms, Dianne Reeves performs with her band (Peter Martin on piano, Romero Lumbabo on guitar, Reginald Veal on bass guitar and Terreon Gully on drums), sharing an astonishing lesson in style with all of us.
