Béjart Ballet Lausanne

Since its creation 1987, Béjart Ballet Lausanne has been a reference in the choreographic world. After Maurice Béjart’s passing in 2007, the compagny has managed to preserve and perpetuate its artistic excellence. In 2024, Julien Favreau was appointed artistic director, passionately continuing  Maurice Béjart’s legacy.

Maurice Béjart always aimed to open the world of dance to a wide audience. Inspired by the same spirit, the dancer of BBL perform worldwide. Béjart Ballet Lausanne is one of the few companies capable of filling vast venues such as the NHK Hall in Tokyo, the Kremlin State Palace in Moscou, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens, the Palais des Congrès in Paris, Forest National in Bruxelles or the Malley-Lausanne ice rink.

Since 2007, the artistic direction of Béjart Ballet Lausanne has maintained and developed the company’s repertoire. At its core lies the work of Maurice Béjart, with iconic choregraphies such as The Rite of Spring, Boléro, The Ninth Symphony or Ballet for Life. The BBL also reintroduces other works to the public, such as Piaf or The Magic Flute. Guest choreographers like Yuka Oishi, Valentina Turcu, Julio Arozarena, Tony Fabre, Christophe Garcia, Alonzo King, Giorgio Madia and Joost Vrouenraets also contributed to the creative development of Béjart Ballet Lausanne.

The company, faithful to its mission, keeps Maurice Béjart’s work alive while remaining a space for creation.
