Pianist and composer Kit Armstrong, now in his late twenties, gave his first Verbier recital when he was just eight years old. The New York Times has described him as a “brilliant pianist” who combines “musical maturity and youthful daring in his exceptional playing”. A protégé of the great Alfred Brendel, he is also a scientist who holds a master’s degree in pure mathematics from the University of Paris VI. At his 2020 Verbier recital his own compositions are interleaved with works by Mozart and the Renaissance Englishman William Byrd, whom Armstrong describes as “the most contrapuntally eloquent of composers”.BACK TO THE PROGRAMME
