Three major pianists and two Romantic piano concertos from the core of this concert. Mikhail Pletnev, here in his guise as conductor, directs the Verbier Festival Orchestra as it partners Evgeny Kissin in Liszt’s Piano Concerto No 1 and Lucas Debargue (in one of his four appearances at this year’s Festival) in Chopin’s Piano Concerto No 2. The opening item is a symphonic poem composed in 1912 by a key figure in Poland’s musical history, Mieczysław Karłowicz, and the concert closes in sumptuous style with Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé, Suite N° 2.
