Two epoch-making masterpieces by Beethoven are preceded by Schoenberg’s rarely heard, but deeply moving cantata A Survivor from Warsaw. Composed in 1947 as a tribute to victims of the Holocaust, it is narrated by bass-baritone Thomas Quasthoff, returning to Verbier’s Salle des Combins. In Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, the Verbier Festival Orchestra and its charismatic Music Director Valery Gergiev are joined by one of the work’s greatest current interpreters, Pinchas Zukerman.BACK TO THE PROGRAMME
