LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN (1770-1827)
Horn (Cello) Sonata in F major Op. 17
Cello Sonata No. 5 in D major Op. 102 No. 2

This is the second of two all-Beethoven recitals – embracing the five cello sonatas and other works for cello and piano – by the long-established duo of Miklós Perényi and András Schiff, both alumni of the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest. As the Guardian wrote after concerts at the Schubertiade in Austria: “[Their] shared life of music-making was apparent in every gesture and phrase of two all-Beethoven programmes … We were witnessing musical acts of friendship, subtlety and understanding.”
