The Verbier Festival celebrates its 25th anniversary with the Music Director of its VFO, Valery Gergiev. The greatest of today’s Russian conductors wears many hats: Music Director of the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, Music Director of the Munich Philharmonic and of the Verbier Festival Orchestra. In this interview during a meeting in Paris with the charismatic personality, Gergiev talks about his links with the Verbier Festival, his training as a pianist, the sudden death of his father at age 14 and his vocation as a conductor in the former USSR.
