Aware of climate and sustainability challenges, the Verbier Festival, supported by a committee of staff members, is committed to integrating sustainable measures to become an event more in tune with its time. The actions proposed by the committee are part of a dynamic process and aim for progressive and constant improvement, particularly in environmental preservation and climate change awareness. They seek to demonstrate the importance of a comprehensive and coherent long-term approach, while considering the organization’s means and resources.
The Concrete Awareness Measures Implemented by the Committee Members.
Promote Sustainable Mobility
Orchestra and Academy members (over 300 individuals) are encouraged to travel by train rather than by plane. To promote this practice, an annual award is presented to the person who travels the longest distance without using air travel. All our teams are encouraged to travel on foot, by bicycle, and by public transport. The Festival provides bicycles for some team members. To this end, the Verbier Festival establishes partnerships with mobility providers such as: BikesLab, RailAway, TMR, Téléverbier, VIP Pass.
Raise Awareness about Responsible and Local Food Practices
Each year, a ‘green’ breakfast is organized for all musicians, staff, and volunteers of the Festival. Due to its success, two breakfasts will be organized this year. The objective is to encourage the purchase of local products and reduce meat consumption. This includes, for example, the implementation of culinary offerings that consider the dietary practices and restrictions of the majority, with products supplied by local producers.
In 2025, the Verbier Festival strengthens its local roots by entrusting its catering to a Valais partner. This strong choice reflects a firm commitment to support the region’s economic actors, promote local products, and reduce the event’s environmental impact. By collaborating with a partner deeply rooted in the region, the Verbier Festival aims to offer a more authentic, responsible, and perfectly aligned culinary experience with its values.
Raise Awareness about the Climate Impact our Festival Has on its Natural Environment
Upon their arrival in Verbier, the Verbier Festival teams volunteer their time to plant flowers and vegetables in the Comba garden, which will then be maintained by the school’s students. The Verbier Festival Forest is a natural and preserved area that the Festival is committed to protecting and enhancing. Its teams organize tree plantings there, and one of UNLTD’s popular Musical Walks will lead to a concert on site. Over the past six years, the Festival has significantly reduced the number of plastic bottles it purchases and distributes them only in specific locations, making recycling even more accessible and finding ways to reduce and streamline printed materials by encouraging the public to take only the paper materials they need.

The Verbier Festival is committed to a more sustainable future
Aware of its roots in the heart of the Swiss Alps, the Verbier Festival joined the Swisstainable sustainability program in 2024 and was recognized at Level I – committed. This initiative reflects our desire to harmonize musical excellence with respect for our exceptional environment and encourages us to continue our commitment to continuous improvement. Swisstainable brings together Swiss tourism stakeholders around a common vision: that of long-term sustainable development. As an international festival deeply rooted in its territory, we have been committed for several years to integrating responsible practices into the organization of our event, carefully monitoring our actions, and raising awareness among our audience, artists, and partners about environmental issues. Today, we are striving for greater transparency in our practices and setting new goals.
To better understand our environmental footprint, we are conducting our first CO₂ assessment this year, in collaboration with regional sustainability stakeholders. This assessment will primarily be based on data collected during the 2025 edition of the Festival. We eagerly await the results, which will enable us to take concrete action where our impact is most significant. Our objective is clear: to improve our overall footprint year after year, and even reverse the trend in areas where possible. Through a rigorous approach, targeted actions, and collective commitment, we aspire to make the Verbier Festival an example of vibrant, conscious, and sustainable culture.
