British-Italian tenor Freddie De Tommaso shot to prominence when he won First Prize, the Plácido Domingo Tenor Prize and the Verdi Prize at the 2018 Viñas International Singing Competition in Barcelona. Since then, lauded for a voice in the tradition of the great Italian tenors, he has performed on major stages including the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and the Bayerische Staatsoper with whose studio he sang for the 2018/19 season. The first tenor to sign exclusively to Decca Classics since Jonas Kaufmann, his acclaimed 2021 debut album, Passione, entered the classical charts at No 1. Role debuts for 2021/2022 include Maurizio in Adriana Lecouvreur at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, and Don José in Carmen at the Wiener Staatsoper. Concert appearances include Puccini’s Messa di Gloria at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino with Zubin Mehta, and a solo concert in Moscow.
