Violinist Clara-Jumi Kang is internationally celebrated for her virtuosity and expressive depth. Winner of the Indianapolis (2010), Sendai, and Seoul International Violin Competitions, she has established herself among the leading artists of her generation. Her Beethoven Violin Sonata cycle with pianist Sunwook Kim (Accentus, 2021) received glowing reviews and award nominations.
Upcoming highlights include performances at the BBC Proms with Timothy Ridout, a return to the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and her debut at the Salzburg Festival with Andrew Manze. She will also appear with major orchestras such as the Israel Philharmonic, Seoul Philharmonic, Shanghai Symphony, Hamburg Symphony, Netherlands Philharmonic, and Atlanta Symphony, among others.
Kang has performed with renowned conductors including Paavo Järvi, Myung-Whun Chung, Petrenko, Dutoit, and Long Yu, and with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, and Budapest Festival Orchestra. Born in Germany into a musical family, she studied with Zakhar Bron, Dorothy DeLay, and Christoph Poppen, and was mentored from an early age by Daniel Barenboim.
She performs on the 1702 “Thunis” Stradivarius, generously on loan from KIA.
