The Verbier Festival and the Vareille Foundation collaborate this year to carry out a musical storytelling pilot-project in four schools throughout Valais. The programme aims to introduce classical music to children while opening their minds to the connections between the various art-forms—music, literature, drawing and animation—through playful in-classroom workshops and performances.
The project features a string quartet, composed of alumni of the Verbier Festival Academy and Orchestras, an illustrator/animator and a narrator.
The illustrator visits one or more classes in each school. The teacher will have prepared the class by reading four fairy tales presented in Maurice Ravel’s Ma mère l’Oye: Sleeping Beauty; Petit Poucet; Laideronette, Impératrice de pagodes; La Belle et la Bête. The illustrator will work with the children to create illustrations of these fairy tales. During the following week, he will prepare an animated film of the illustrations created by the children.
The illustrator will then join the string quartet and a narrator for a presentation of the complete work for each school, accompanied by an animation of the students’ creations.
