Chamber music play Schumann Piano Quintet in E-flat major Op.44, II. In modo d’una marcia
Few works have had the fate of Die Forelle, whose mere mention conjures up images of the salons where the composer held his “Schubertiades”. It must be said that its original five-movement structure, with an expansive central theme and variations, is quite appealing. This vast piece finds its unity in an ascending triplet movement evoking the fish’s journey to the surface of the water.
The balance of Schumann’s Quintet, which oscillates between heroic tuttis and funeral processions, is fascinating and pushes the art of contrast to its peak, requiring performers to have an almost dual intelligence to jump, without transition, from the lyrical to the epic. But we can count on the unparalleled experience of these chamber musicians : the wholehearted commitment of each of the musicians in this dream lineup promises an emotional experience that only chamber music can deliver.
