MEDIA RELEASE:
Presentation of the 2024 poster and opening of the ticket office on january 15 2024

15 December 2023 — VERBIER (Switzerland) – The Verbier Festival unveils the poster for its 31st edition, to be held from 18 July to 4 August 2024. This year, the Festival has opted for a modern and vibrant iconography that brings together all the colours of the Festival: the blue of the Verbier Festival Foundation, the green of the Academy, the violet of the Friends and also the magenta of UNLTD.

While the details of the programme have yet to be revealed, Martin T :son Engstroem promises that this new edition will be just as special as the 30th anniversary. He declares: “I wanted to place 2024 under the sign of youth. Verbier has often shown that talent doesn’t need the test of time, and the Festival and the Academy have been a real stepping stone for many great soloists. I think that this summer, once again, it will be an opportunity to discover the great classical musicians of tomorrow and to come and listen to the greatest artists of the moment who are loyal to Verbier, which our public particularly loves.”

With over 60 concerts spread over 18 days, the Verbier Festival’s rich programme guarantees that there will be something for everyone. To name just a few of the artists who will be performing this summer: violinists Kim Bomsori, Augustin Dumay, Daniel Lozakovich, and Leonidas Kavakos, pianists Lucas Debargue, Alexandra Dovgan, Mao Fujita, Alexandre Kantorow, Evgenii Kissin, Andràs Schiff, Yuja Wang and Tsotne Zedginidze, cellist Mischa Maisky and the Quatuor Ebène, conductors Daniel Harding, Klaus Mäkelä, Tarmo Peltokoski and Lahav Shani, singers Angélica Kidjo, Magdalena Kožená, Peter Mattei and Thomas Quasthoff, and many more.

The Festival will be officially opened on 18 July 2024. The opening ceremony will be followed by a piano recital with Olivier Cavé, a Swiss-Italian pianist from Martigny, performing works by Scarlatti, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. The opening concert will be held on 19 July at the Salle des Combins: the Verbier Festival Orchestra under the expert direction of Sir Simon Rattle will play a major piece by composer Gustav Mahler.

The full programme will be made public on 15 January 2024, date on which ticket sales for this 31st edition will open for the Friends of the Verbier Festival. The general public will still have to wait until 29 January before they can get their tickets for the coveted concerts. The programme of Academy masterclasses will also be unveiled on 15 January 2024. While the masterclasses will remain free of charge, reservations will be necessary as the number of places is limited.

For those who don’t want to wait until next summer to go and listen to classical music in Verbier, they can attend the traditional New Year’s concert at the Eglise de Verbier on 29 December 2023 at 6.30pm with Ilva Eigus, a young violinist from the Academy, and Alexandra Dovgan, a young pianist who came to Verbier for the first time in July 2023. The programme includes works by Ysaÿe, Chopin and Prokofiev. A complimentary mulled wine will be served from 5.30 pm.
