Originally from Seoul, Soyoung Cho began violin at age five and the viola at age eight. She entered the Curtis Institute of Music in 2017 for viola studies with Hsin-Yun Huang, after having attended the Korea National University of Arts and the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts in the classes of Soonhwa Oh and Seoyoung Lee. In addition to her successes in several Korean competitions, Soyoung won Second Prize at the Johansen International Competition for Young String Players (2015) and Third Prize at the Osaka International Music Competition (2011). She has served as principal violist of the Korea National University of Arts Orchestra, and regularly plays in string quartets and other chamber ensembles.
