Born in 1996 in Helsinki, Klaus Mäkelä studied both conducting and cello at the Sibelius Academy. Last year, he was named Music Advisor to the Orchestre de Paris (of which he will become Music Director starting September 2022) and Principal Conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. He is also Principal Guest Conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Associate Artist of the Tapiola Sinfonietta and Artistic Director of the Turku Music Festival. Orchestras in the United States and Europe have benefited from his talents embracing both the classical period and new works. As a cellist, he has also collaborated with many Finnish orchestras and chamber music ensembles. Mäkelä plays a Giovanni Grancino from 1698.
