A musician who always makes her personal mark, Martha Argerich has dominated the piano world for the past sixty years thanks to her wide and unusually diverse repertoire, prodigious technique, and deep musical sensitivity. In this long-awaited opening concert of the 2014 Verbier Festival, she performs Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 for the first time in ten years. Dutoit and the Verbier Festival Orchestra then play Brahms’ Symphony No. 1, a symphony that Hans von Bülow intriguingly called Beethoven’s “Tenth.”
